In this interview, Stephen Hill (Central Maintenance Manager) and Reece Parker (Area Maintenance Manager) share their personal experiences of working at Esseco UK, where a close-knit environment, strong relationships and daily collaboration shape a distinctive way of working.
Reece, you joined Esseco UK after working in a larger industrial environment. How was that transition for you?
Reece:
“When I joined Esseco UK, it was very welcoming. Coming from a much larger industrial site, the environment here felt quite different at first. But it’s been brilliant, and I feel like I’ve adapted very quickly. Working in a more connected environment means you really get to know the people around you. It feels like a close community — you can walk around, recognise everyone, and communicate easily, which has a very positive impact on working relationships and collaboration.”
How does this working environment influence the way you collaborate with the team?
Reece:
“It makes everything more personal and direct. In very large organisations, you don’t always know who you’re working with, but here the connections are much closer. We all know each other, and that creates a strong sense of camaraderie. It makes communication smoother and collaboration more effective. People are approachable, and you never feel like just another number.”
Can you walk us through a typical day in the maintenance team at Esseco UK?
Reece:
“A typical day starts with checking the event system, especially after weekends, to identify anything that needs prioritising. We start half an hour earlier than the rest of the team to assess major tasks and prepare the plan for the day. Then we check in with the team when they start, making sure any critical issues are addressed immediately. If possible, we also keep planned work on track. Throughout the day we stay connected via radios, so we can react quickly if something unexpected comes up. There’s also a daily meeting at 9 a.m. where we review maintenance tasks and align priorities.”
Stephen, how would you describe the dynamic within the maintenance team?
Stephen:
“We have a very strong team. Many people have been here for a long time, which means there’s a lot of historical knowledge of the site, and that’s invaluable when it comes to problem-solving. The team is proactive, and whenever something goes wrong, we always find a solution to get back on track. There’s a strong sense of responsibility and pride in doing things properly.”
Do you think collaboration within the team plays a key role in maintaining efficiency?
Reece:
“Absolutely. The team is very capable, and everyone is willing to go above and beyond — always in a safe way. It’s not just about completing tasks; it’s about working together, supporting each other and making sure things are done properly. When challenges arise, people step up. It’s a very cohesive team where everyone looks out for one another.”
Do you enjoy working at Esseco UK?
Reece:
“Yes, I really enjoy it. The environment is positive, and the team is fantastic. It’s about doing things properly, working with great people and taking pride in what we do. Every day brings new challenges, and that keeps the work interesting. It’s a great place to work, and I’m glad to be part of the team.”
What would you say makes Esseco UK special compared to other places you’ve worked?
Reece:
“The way people work together. Strong relationships, clear communication and mutual trust make a real difference. You feel part of a team, not just part of an organisation, and that has a positive impact on how work gets done.”
Stephen:
“We’re a committed team, always striving for improvement. Safety is taken seriously, and we’re focused on delivering results. What really sets Esseco UK apart is the culture — the work ethic, the pride people take in what they do, and the shared responsibility to do things the right way.”
Esseco UK’s strength lies in its people. Strong relationships, effective communication and shared values create a working environment where everyone feels involved and committed to the company’s success.
